Google AdSense reporting fixed!

I was very happy last week when I logged into my AdSense account and looked at my channel by channel list of results and saw that Google had fixed the report!

You see, back in the past, the channels were all arranged by which ones earned the most money.  A few weeks ago, they all seemed to be displayed at random.  A channel that had earned nothing might have been listed at the top, followed by one that made $10, followed by one that made $1.  It was confusing, and required me to spend time taking a close look at each channel and analyze the data.  That is a waste of good time!

Last week, when I looked at the report, it was fixed!  I never saw anybody complaining about this error online, but I am sure people found it annoying, as I know I did.  Now, though, when you look at the list of channels on the main Google AdSense reports page, you get the channels listed in order of highest earnings to lowest.  I like that, because at just a quick glance, I can know exactly which pages are paying off and which are not.  I pretty much know which of my sites earn the most, and which earn not so much.  If I look at the report and see that site “x” is not near the top of the list, I know that something is wrong, and I need to check the site and see what is happening, because in my mind, I know that this site should be one of my top earners.

How about you, did you notice this Google AdSense reporting anomaly over the past few weeks?

Thanks for fixing it, Google!

No, I didn’t notice it, but I also didn’t notice that it showed them based on which made the most. I just went and checked. Mine do not do that and I don’t think they every did. Hmmm…wonder if I need to adjust something.

Hi Tom – Hmm…. when I log into check my adsense, it always has listed the channels, based on earnings per channel. Recently, it just showed them at random, but now it is back again. Strange! I didn’t change any settings either!

  3. I have to admit I learned something today … mainly that I have been avery poor observer.

So far as I know, Bob, mine have never appeared in anything except ‘jumble’ order … alphabetical I think … until just now I went an dlooked and what do you know … with one click I can even see all the channels seven back to my last payment … a perfect tool say for deciding where to focus some attention.

Seriously, though, mine have never before appeared this way … I have always looked at the month’s performance, say by taking the extra clcikc to pull a cutom report and the clciking on the columns in the custom report to sort … dang but this new way it is working is nice.

Here’s something else worth chatting abouty on AdSense reporting. I thought it would be good to have a URL report for each site to know what it makes overall, as well as a channel report for each add unit. My URL reports never equal the total of all the add units on that URl. Wonder why that is?

Hi Dave Starr – Well, I’m happy that I pointed this out! I find it to be quite helpful in judging my site’s performance.

Like you, I have noticed that different reporting can lead to slightly different amounts and such! I even get reports of sites with “0″ clicks, yet they show earnings! Ever seen that?

I have seen what you both describe and it doesn’t seem to make any sense. I know enough basic math and accounting to know that the numbers should add up no matter how you slice them.

  6. Bob says:

Hi Tom – Isn’t it strange how that happens. For part of the question, I have always figured that some clicks are worth a fraction of a cent, and thus totals could vary by a bit. That would never explain the “0 clicks” but with money earned, though. I mean you can get half a click!! Ha ha…
