Feeling good

For several weeks now, I have had my diabetes in good control.  I had gone for a long time without controling it, and I feel a lot better now with my blood glucose level at more normal levels.  Over the past few weeks, my blood glucose readings have been running from a low of 101 to a high of 145.  I have seen no reading higher than 145, which I would have considered very low just a few weeks ago.

DiabetesNot only is it just nice to see these normal levels of blood sugar, I also feel a lot better.  The good feeling is both physical and also mental as well.  When your glucose is out of control, you tend to be moody, get angry easily, etc. and I am glad to not have that problem anymore.  Who likes being angry?  I sure don’t.

Another major problem if you let your diabetes go uncontrolled is that you get a lot of infections, because your immune system has it’s guard down when your diabetes is out of control.  Even just a minor cut or scrape can easily turn into a serious infection, and that is certainly not good.  When my diabetes is out of control, I am very prone toward these kind of infections.

Anyway, I am feeling good.  I eat less than I used to and I enjoy life more.  I hope that I can continue to control this terrible disease.  I know that I will keep trying my best.

Hi Bob – Congrats on the victories in your never ending war against diabetes. Having that scourge on both sides of the family, with my late father’s death brought on early by diabetes, I have to watch myself and, of course, find a boogeyman beneath each bed of food set before me.

Am wondering, if you are a rice eater, have you switched to “brown” rice? Takes longer for its starches to convert to sugar so no “after a meal spike”
in blood-sugar. Being near paranoid on the subject, I switched a while back and even enjoy the taste and texture of brown rice vs. its white brethren.

Hi Paul – I rarely eat rice, it’s not something that is a favorite of mine. Probably I eat rice only a half dozen times per year or so. Also, I have never seen brown rice here in Davao before. Maybe it exists, though, because I haven’t looked very hard!
