Roadhouse Cafe

Sizzline-Pochero-150x150

I’ve been eating at Roadhouse Cafe for years now.  It all started for me when we first ate at Roadhouse Grill in Valencia, Bukidnon, when we were passing through on the way to Cagayan de Oro City.  The food was so great that we always wished they had a location in Davao City.  Just a couple of years later, our wish came true, when Roadhouse Grill opened up a branch in SM City Davao!  We were very happy.  Additionally, Roadhouse also has a branch in SM City Cagayan de Oro City.  As far as I know, these are the only 3 branches for the restaurant. Roadhouse is a bit of a fusion restaurant, combining favorites of western foods and … [Read more...]

Ranchero Grill

Crispy-Liempo-150x150

My wife, Feyma, and I have been enjoying Ranchero Grill ever since we first moved to the Philippines in 2000. Ranchero Grill is originally from General Santos City, where we lived from 2000 until 2002, but when we moved to Davao City in 2002, Ranchero opened a branch here too, which made us very happy!  Now, Ranchero Grill has two branches in Davao City.  One branch is in the Metro Lifestyle complex, just off F. Torres Street, and the second branch is located in Abreeza Mall in Bajada, Davao City. Ranchero Grill has a lot of great foods.  The place is sort of a “cowboy” style place with the waiters and waitresses dressed up in … [Read more...]

Ngoyong Hauz

Until recently, I had no idea what Ngoyong was.  I’m glad I have now learned what it is! It all started when my wife and I went to Ranchero Grill, another restaurant here in Davao.  One of the great dishes at Ranchero, in my opinion, is the lumpia.  For those who don’t know what lumpia is, it is sort of like an egg roll, at least it’s the Filipino style of an egg roll.  Ranchero has what I believe to be the very best lumpia in Davao, perhaps in all of the Philippines. A couple of days later, I had a real craving for some lumpia, but I didn’t feel like driving all the way to Ranchero.  So, I decided to do a search … [Read more...]

Bon Appetit! La Boutique

Au-Gratin-150x150

Do you like French Food?  Hey, who doesn’t like French Food?  Thankfully, Davao City is blessed with a couple of very good French Restaurants.  Today, I want to tell you about a new French Restaurant that I only recently discovered.  Although they have been around for about a year now, I only visited Bon Appetit! La Boutique for the first time in October.  It was my wife’s birthday on October 26, and for a birthday lunch outing, I took her to Bon Appetit! La Boutique.  It was kind of a chance visit, we really intended to visit a different restaurant, but we ended up at La Boutique instead.  I’m glad that we made the … [Read more...]

Majid’s Kabob

majid

Good food doesn’t necessarily mean expensive food.  In fact it can be very inexpensive. One place where the food is great, yet the prices are very low is a place called Majid’s Kabob, on Rizal Street in Davao City.  Majid is a man who immigrated to Davao City from Iran many years ago, and he keeps preparing a specialty from his homeland on the streets of Davao, for all Davaoenyos to enjoy.  Of course, I’m talking about Kabobs. Majid’s Kabobs come in a variety of different meats – beef, pork, lamb or even goat.  And, they are all delicious if you ask me.  Depending on what you order, the BBQ pit man will get … [Read more...]

Gino’s Burgers

Gino

Last week, I was browsing Facebook (check out this blog’s Facebook page) and I happened to see a post where one of my friends had visited Gino’s Burgers in Agdao.  I had never heard of the place, but the picture of my friends burger looked pretty appetizing.  I saw the picture at night, and I thought to myself that I really had to make a visit to Gino’s the next day! Well, I woke up the next morning ready for a hamburger!  But, Gino’s doesn’t open until around 10am (you know, this is the Philippines, times can vary!).  So, when it got to be about 11am, Feyma and I headed out to see if we could find the place. … [Read more...]

Welcome to Davao Eats

welcome

Davao Eats.  That’s my new blog, which you are obviously visiting right now. What kinds of Eats can you find in Davao City, Philippines?  Well, you can find all types of eats!  There are restaurants serving food from every region of the world.  Some places are simple, some are fancy.  You can’t judge the food by the ambiance or “fanciness” of the restaurant.  Some of the best food in Davao can be found in the most simple places.  Sometimes the “hole in the wall” places have great food.  Sometimes the swanky places are just that… swanky place… but with poor food. Davao is just like any … [Read more...]
