I’m looking for interaction

If you love blogging, interact with those who love you!

I enjoy interaction. I like to be engaged. These are two of the main things I am looking for when I read blogs in the Internet. There are millions of blogs on the Internet, literally.  A large number of those, though, are sort of on autopilot - posts show up, but beyond that, there really is nothing much more. To me, a blog should be interactive.  You post an article.  If you have a big enough reader base, some of your readers will respond by posting a comment with their thoughts and opinions on the subject that you wrote about.  Should that be the end of things?  In my opinion, no, it should not.  As a blogger, you really … [Read more...]

Tips on Customizing the Look of your Blog

customizing-150x150

If you have a WordPress blog, as I have recommended, you have virtually an unlimited number of customization options!  You can change the look and feel of your blog on a whim without knowing how to do any programming or anything like that. The biggest thing you can do to change the look of your blog is by changing the theme that you are using.  The theme is what gives your blog it’s general look.  For instance this blog is using a theme that is kind of a basic look with a black header, lots of white space, etc.  the theme also dictates that there is the main area where the blog post is located and there are two sidebars on the … [Read more...]

What can I write about?

Ebooks200-150x150

Whether it be for writing a blog, writing an e-book or any other form of writing, one of the biggest reasons for failure is that the person doing the writing simply stops writing.  In my experience, the biggest reason why people stop writing is because they can’t figure out what to write about.  Frankly, if they were writing on a topic that they are passionate about, as I recommend, I don’t see how this situation could occur. If you are writing on a topic that is one of your passions, you should always have something to say.  I know that for topics that are dear to my heart, I never run out of things that I can talk about.  If … [Read more...]

WordPress 2.5

wordpress-must-dos

Last weekend, Wordpress 2.5 was released!  Have you upgraded your Wordpress site yet?  I have not done it 100% yet, but it is something that I am still working on with my many Wordpress sites. I am wondering, though, do you think that Wordpress is still the way to go for a website or blog?  I have been thinking about this for several months now.  I have a couple of reasons for the question: Wordpress is the most popular blogging client.  No doubt.  That, though, can have positive and negative sides.  First, since it is so popular, it is the default target for people with malicious intentions.  For example, if somebody wants to hack … [Read more...]

$1 per day: Get it from Google!

google-3oct2001-150x150

Do you have a blog? If not, you really should consider having one. The first thing that people ask about having a blog is this – “What will I write about?” Well to be totally honest, that is a decision for you to make! My best advice is this: Write about something that you are passionate about! Every one of us has different things that we are interested in, and you should choose one of the things that interest you as the topic of your blog. Some people have very “general” blog sites. One day they write about the flowers they planted in the garden, the next day they write about a new factory being built in … [Read more...]

Stop the treadmill! I think I want to get off!

Wordpress

I'm having one of those days today.  You know the kind of day I am talking about - one of those days when you work hard for the entire day, and at the end of the day, you feel like you didn't do anything.  I don't like those days. I blame Wordpress. "Why Wordpress," you say? Well, I blame Wordpress because it has become like a treadmill that never stops.  First of all, you have a never ending parade of updates to the software.  As soon as you update to a new version and get all the kinks worked out, it seems like there is a new, critical security update that you have to do immediately!  If you don't update on time, it's like … [Read more...]

Can I help my friend?

computer-repair-150x150

Recently, on another site of mine, I wrote an article that was about different ways to earn money.  Although I never mentioned anything about earning money online, a friend of mine made a comment saying that he didn’t know how to make money online, so it was basically worthless to even try.  A couple of others said that they felt I was unwilling to help anybody to make money online, only to sell the information so that I could make money. Hello…??? Telling people how to do it is what this site is all about.  Last time I checked, nobody had to pay a penny to read this site, it’s totally free.  Yes, I also have products … [Read more...]

Changing your advertiser focus

advertiser-150x150

I got an e-mail today from a friend who also is a website publisher.  He is interested in making some changes in the way he does business.  Here is an edited version of his e-mail to me (edited so that he remains anonymous): I have a question about advertising. I know at one point it seemed like you had more Google Adsense ads on your websites, but now you have quite a few from companies and such. One of my websites seems to be poised to go to the next level. It has been doing well recently. I sent out an email with new ways to advertise on the site and several companies came back with wanting to do even more advertising like banner ads. I … [Read more...]

How often should I write on my blog?

writing-150x150

Did you ever find a blog that you really enjoy reading, and after you read it for a while the articles just stop coming?  There are so many blogs like this.  So, when this happens, what do you do?  If you are like me, after a blog has gone dry for a while, you eventually just eliminate it from your feed reader.  If it was a blog that I really liked, I might go back there in a few months to see if it has anything new on it, but if it is still the same old articles, I probably won’t go back again after that. How often should you write on your blog? So, if you are a blogger, or have any kind of website, this should teach you an … [Read more...]

Setting up your blog

building-blocks-150x150

OK, so now that you’ve completed the things I recommended on my last post, you should have your domain name, a hosting account with some company that will host your domain, and hopefully you got an account with CPanel and Fantastico for administration of your account.  I am going to write this post based on that setup. Yes, I just finished setting up my blog! OK, so first step, you want to set up a blog!  I strongly recommend that you use WordPress for that.  I use WordPress as my blogging platform on all of my blogs (note, I am not talking about WordPress.com hosted blogging, but rather WordPress software on my own hosting … [Read more...]
