Producing original content

books-150x150

There are lots of ways to make money online. I use many different paths toward earning a living online myself.  I want to look at one of those ways today, and look at what I’ve done, and what I will do in the future with this income stream.  I am talking about creating content, which you will sell. What do I mean by “content?” Certainly, there are all kinds of “content.” Well, I am primarily talking about three different things: Writing eBooks to sell for download. Writing paper books which I will sell and ship to the customer. Making videos and selling them. Self Publish for Success Well, in 2008 I wrote a … [Read more...]

It’s like TV Guide for the Internet!

TV-Guide-150x150

A few days ago, I was watching the news on TV.  Since I live in the Philippines, I was watching the Philippine news, on a Philippine TV station.  They were talking about how the company that owns the channel I was watching was going to put up about 5 new digital TV channels.  During the discussion, they mentioned other TV channels that were owned by this particular broadcaster.  I don’t know for sure, but I would guess that this company probably owns between a dozen to 20 different TV channels. This whole discussion kicked off a thought in my mind.  I am a publisher.  I have a lot of websites where I publish information on the … [Read more...]

More thoughts about self-publishing

self-publishing-cover-large_1-150x150

The other day I wrote an article here about book publishing. I want to write some books, and have been exploring the idea of how to handle the publishing end of it. I have also been thinking about the format that the books should take, electronic or paper. I have come up with some answers, thanks to my friend Dave. Of course, the comments on my last article were very helpful too. Dave left a comment there, but he also took the much appreciated step of sending me a book from his personal library to assist me in making the decisions needed. The book that Dave sent to me (via LBC) is entitled “How to Write, Publish, & Sell Your Own … [Read more...]

Putting butts in the seats

Provide-something-to-read-150x150

Putting butts in the seats?  What is that all about?  Seems a bit of a strange subject! Well, yes, the title is a bit unconventional, for sure.  However, what I am basically saying is that if you have a blog, or some kind of website, you want to bring an audience to read it!  You want the “seats” in the auditorium to be filled up with people’s butts who are sitting there reading the content that you have published. If you don’t have an audience, why publish at all? A little over a week ago, I published an article entitled “Facebook is for Dummies.”  In that article, I explained that I use Facebook to … [Read more...]

What can I write about?

Ebooks200-150x150

Whether it be for writing a blog, writing an e-book or any other form of writing, one of the biggest reasons for failure is that the person doing the writing simply stops writing.  In my experience, the biggest reason why people stop writing is because they can’t figure out what to write about.  Frankly, if they were writing on a topic that they are passionate about, as I recommend, I don’t see how this situation could occur. If you are writing on a topic that is one of your passions, you should always have something to say.  I know that for topics that are dear to my heart, I never run out of things that I can talk about.  If … [Read more...]

Facebook is for dummies!

Facebook-Icon-150x150

I hear this kind of thing from a broad spectrum of people on a regular basis.  They just feel that Facebook and other Social Networking sites are not a place for a serious Internet Entrepreneur.  Facebook is for kids.  Facebook is for playing Farmville. Facebook is not serious.  I hate Facebook.  Well, those are the kinds of things I hear on a pretty much daily basis from people I talk to. Facebook Login You know what?  I disagree.  In my experience, Facebook has made me a lot of money.  I use Facebook daily.  I have about 2,100 friends on Facebook (if you want to be my friend, just click here and friend me!) and if I have some … [Read more...]

Coming Soon on the NY Times

New-York-Times-Building-150x150

In only a few more days, March 28, the New York Times will be putting much of it’s content behind a “paywall,” meaning that you will have to pay to read the content of the NY Times (NYT).  Certainly, the Times is one of the most important newspapers in the world, and it is the first paper of it’s size and influence to use the paywall model.  We’ll see how that works out for them. Under the current plan, the NYT will let web readers view 20 stories per month for free.  If you click on the 21st story within a month, you will be taken to the paywall, and offered several different plans.  My understanding is that … [Read more...]

In search of…

Affiliate-150x150

A few days ago, I decided that it was time for me to shake things up a bit on some of my various websites.  I am mostly talking about advertising.  If you keep the exact same ads on your site for a long time, they tend to get stale, and people go blind to them.  That is one of the reasons why I strongly recommending using an ad server of some kind to rotate your ads, and put them in different areas of the page on each reload. However, in addition to rotation by the ad server, it’s a good idea to go and look for new kinds of ads from time to time to keep your site fresh, and to keep people looking at new things that will attract their … [Read more...]

Book publishing

publishingabook-150x150

I have been kicking around the idea of writing a book.  I have written about a dozen books in the past, and have had them all published.  I used two different publishers before.  One experience was a disaster, the other experience was great.  Now, though, I am conflicted when it comes to publication. Conflicted about what?  Well, I am debating about whether to go the traditional way of writing a book and having a publishing house print it and distribute it, or whether I should self publish.  If I decide to self publish (which is the way that I am leaning), I can see two paths to take there too. Go the traditional route of printing the … [Read more...]
