Oh, one more thing….

another

One thing I forgot to include on the last post. Here is evidence that exercise does good things: 7:15am - just after getting up from bed, my blood glucose was 128. 7:45am - ate breakfast, 2 fried eggs and two slices of ham. 9:30am - went walking for one hour - 2+ miles 10:30am - blood glucose after walking: 108. Nice! … [Read more...]

Keeping it up!

healthy

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article about getting my diabetes and diet under control.  As I said, I had seen some very nice results as far as my blood glucose readings went.  They were pretty close to normal, which made me quite happy. Well, that was a one day more than 2 weeks ago when I wrote that, and I am happy to say that my readings are holding.  My diet is still under control, and I am feeling very good.  Amazing what a little more exercise and living a reasonable lifestyle will do for you! When my diabetes was out of control, I had a big problem with infections.  Almost any wound that I got, be it a paper cut, or even … [Read more...]

Feeling good

Diabetes

For several weeks now, I have had my diabetes in good control.  I had gone for a long time without controling it, and I feel a lot better now with my blood glucose level at more normal levels.  Over the past few weeks, my blood glucose readings have been running from a low of 101 to a high of 145.  I have seen no reading higher than 145, which I would have considered very low just a few weeks ago. Not only is it just nice to see these normal levels of blood sugar, I also feel a lot better.  The good feeling is both physical and also mental as well.  When your glucose is out of control, you tend to be moody, get angry easily, etc. and … [Read more...]

The test strip scam

Test Strips

Over the past few months, I have let my diabetes get the better of me.  I have been having health problems lately because of the fact that I allowed my blood glucose level to get out of control.  Diabetes is not a forgiving disease.  If you don't control your diabetes, it controls you.  I am tired of being controlled by diabetes, and my poor control of the disease.  I am tired of feeling poorly.  I decided to do something about it. First step is that I got my blood glucose meter to check what my glucose level was.  It's hard to improve if you don't know exactly where you stand.  Oops.  There is a problem.  I don't have any test … [Read more...]

Reaping the rewards of a healthier diet

diabetes_0

As I've been writing about, I've been trying to improve my diet over the past couple of weeks now.  I am starting to see benefits too!  My goal in this quest is not to lose weight, although that will be a nice side benefit.  The goal is to get my diabetes in check, get my blood glucose level down to near a normal level, and keep it there. A little over 2 weeks ago, when I started, I had allowed my blood glucose level to get to about 250 to 300 in the morning after I got up.  This is way above the 120 or so that would be normal, and it's not healthy!  For a week or so, I have not checked my glucose, but this morning when I checked it, it … [Read more...]

Why is it so hard to control my eating?

hamburger

Over recent years, some of it told by this blog, I have had periods where I have done a really good job of controlling my diet.  In turn, this means keeping my blood glucose levels in check.  For me, I have already accepted that I am overweight - I'm fat.  I will probably always be fat to some extent.  But, I still want to control my eating, because my main goal is to keep my diabetes in check.  Keeping my diabetes in check will generally mean that I'd lose more weight, but losing weight is not my primary goal when it comes to eating in a healthy way. For the last 8 months or so, I have again let my blood glucose levels go out of … [Read more...]

Moving in the right direction

compass

Well, over the past week, my blood glucose has been holding in the 180 to 200 region. Not the best, but headed in the right direction from where it was a month ago. I do know that I am feeling healthier, so that is a good sign that I will keep moving down on the glucose scale. Why wouldn't I continue when I feel better by doing so? On an unrelated note, except that it's in the area of health, I sprained my ankle this afternoon! Ouch! I can hardly walk. I was just sitting here typing on my computer, and moved my foot the wrong way, and felt it sort of "pop out" of place. Well, I hope it heals up soon. I injured my ankle about 10 years … [Read more...]
