Are stupid ideas a waste of time?

stupid_idea

If you think about the title of this article, Are stupid ideas a waste of time?, of course you would say "Yes, they sure are."  But, I would argue that they are not.  Stupid ideas are not a waste of time, in fact, they are very valuable in my opinion! How could it be? Have you ever heard of brainstorming?  Do you know what that is?  For those who are unfamiliar with the concept, brainstorming is a process of thinking of all kinds of ideas.  The best way for a brainstorming session to be conducted is to have a group of people, maybe 6 to 10 people or so.  You agree in advance that all ideas will be considered relevant, nothing is … [Read more...]

Feeling good

Diabetes

For several weeks now, I have had my diabetes in good control.  I had gone for a long time without controling it, and I feel a lot better now with my blood glucose level at more normal levels.  Over the past few weeks, my blood glucose readings have been running from a low of 101 to a high of 145.  I have seen no reading higher than 145, which I would have considered very low just a few weeks ago. Not only is it just nice to see these normal levels of blood sugar, I also feel a lot better.  The good feeling is both physical and also mental as well.  When your glucose is out of control, you tend to be moody, get angry easily, etc. and … [Read more...]

Dads have a big impact on us

dad

Our dads have a huge impact on our lives, sometimes good, sometimes bad.  A few days ago I was having a conversation with a man.  This fellow is of retirement age.  He told me about his dad, and how he had negative feelings to this day about his relationship with his dad.  He went on to say that it was silly for a man of his age to be talking of how his dad treated him and such.  I told him that I disagreed.  Talking about things that bring you pain is the best thing that you can do. Because of this conversation, I decided to share a little bit about my relationship with my dad, and how it affected me. When I was a child, my dad had a … [Read more...]

Is being smart a curse?

tnbrain

I am not trying to brag, or saying that I am better than others, but I will just say that I am a smart person.  I have a high IQ.  I also hear it all the time from people who say that I am smart, and such.  So, I simply accept the fact that I am smart as a fact.  Like I say, I am not trying make it seem that I am something that I am not, just accepting that what people tell me is true. The thing is, being smart is not necessarily always a good thing.  There are times when being dumb, or at least pretending to be dumb is the smart way to go.  If you are smart, people have very high expectations of you.  Even if you can meet the … [Read more...]

Mental Health?

mentalhealth

I have let this blog go for too long.  Letting the blog go also means letting my health suffer, because when  I am active on this blog, I take better care of myself too.  I mean, if you are writing about your own health, it is only natural that you are going to take better care of yourself right? Part of reviving the site is that I gave the site a new look to start off the new year, 2009.  I also changed some of the categories of things that I will be writing about.  One of the categories that I will be focusing on is Mental Health.  Why?  Am I crazy?  Well, I think that all of us have mental issues, and that does not necessarily … [Read more...]

Self Talk

selftalk

A friend of mine introduced me to the concept of "self talk" where through talking to yourself and telling yourself positive things, you influence your mental outlook in a positive way, and condition yourself to have a better attitude and better health.  While spending time with my friend, I have been practicing the idea of "self talk" for several years now, although at times I didn't even know that I was doing that.  It would be my opinion that this has been very effective for me, and helped me to address some of my health issues. If you'd like to listen to a sample of Self Talk, go here and click the play button. … [Read more...]

Interesting thoughts

thought

I just got back from my morning walk. I had some interesting ideas regarding health run through my mind while I was walking. One thing that I was thinking was that I am feeling good, and feeling happier lately than I used to. Several months ago, and for the past few years, I was usually not in a good mood. I would be upset about something or another. A lot times, I didn't know why I was upset, I just was. I am sure that my mood made it hard for others to get along with me. Now, though, my "normal" mood is happiness. Sure, there are times that I am upset or in a "down" mood. The difference is that it does not happen very often now, … [Read more...]
