Looks like the first nail is in the coffin

Suicide is painful to watch

Witnessing death is a painful thing, especially when you are watching the death of a person whom you have held dear for much of your life, or all of your life.  Imagine how it would feel to witness the suicide of such a person.  Even more painful. I feel, though, that in the past few years, that is exactly what I have been experiencing.  Not the suicide of a person, thankfully, but the suicide of a nation, my nation of birth, the USA.  It's painful to watch, but as events have transpired over the past few months, it is what I believe I am watching.  The USA appears to be killing itself, and today, it would seem that the first nail is … [Read more...]

What is wrong with this?

barberpole-150x150

OK, I had a little experience that other day that got me thinking in terms of how to make more money, so it relates to this website.  Last week, I went for a haircut.  I go to a little barber shop about a half- kilometer from my house.  I enjoy going there, because it is a small shop, friendly people, just kind of a friendly place to go. The price for a haircut at this shop is P40, which is about 85 US Cents.  I enjoy going there because the barbers speak very little English, and it gives me a chance to practice speaking Bisaya, the local language, which I am learning. It happened in the barber shop!l So, after getting a nice haircut, and … [Read more...]

Banished!

PNP Patrol Car

My name is Bob Martin.  I have lived on the island of Mindanao for 10 years.  I suppose I have been banished. No, I'm not really banished, but it seems that some people would think that banishment would be the only reason to live in Mindanao.  This morning, as I checked my e-mail, I had a "Google News Alert."  If you don't know what that is, it is a service that Google provides.  In this instance, I signed up with Google that anytime there is a news article with the word "Mindanao" in the article, they send me an e-mail with a link to the article.  So, in this morning's Google News Alert, the alerted me to an article at the Manila … [Read more...]

I’m looking for interaction

If you love blogging, interact with those who love you!

I enjoy interaction. I like to be engaged. These are two of the main things I am looking for when I read blogs in the Internet. There are millions of blogs on the Internet, literally.  A large number of those, though, are sort of on autopilot - posts show up, but beyond that, there really is nothing much more. To me, a blog should be interactive.  You post an article.  If you have a big enough reader base, some of your readers will respond by posting a comment with their thoughts and opinions on the subject that you wrote about.  Should that be the end of things?  In my opinion, no, it should not.  As a blogger, you really … [Read more...]

Finding your business niche

bob_gsc-150x150

I have lots of different businesses.  With only a couple of exceptions, all of my businesses only earn a little bit of money each.  That’s what I like.  Truth is, I have so many different businesses that off the top of my head, I am not even sure how many different businesses I have.  In fact, even if I sat down and started counting, I am not certain which ones I would count as actual businesses, some are so small, and things I do so seldom that I might not even count them.  But, I suppose if they are something I do to earn money, they are businesses, regardless of how small. These small businesses that earn small amounts of money … [Read more...]

My new PC!

My new USFF PC, sitting on my desk next to my cellular phone

In the past week or so, I purchased a new PC!  It is kind of a departure for me, because this computer is much different than any other computer that I have bought in my lifetime.  And, believe me, in my lifetime I have bought a lot of PCs too!  What is so different about this PC?  Well, a lot of things, and I'll be telling you about that later in the article. It all started out with my old laptop, a Compaq laptop that was only about 18 months old, or so.  I started having problems with it.  The monitor was starting to give out on it.  If I touched the monitor, the screen would go white.  Because I make my living on the Internet, I … [Read more...]

Are you an entrepreneur?

bob3a

Entrepreneur – a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk. This is the definition of Entrepreneur from http://dictionary.reference.com Personally, I disagree with the definition.  What I would say is that the definition is correct except for one major mistake.  I do not believe that an entrepreneur usually manages an enterprise.  As a matter of fact, one of the characteristics of an entrepreneur is that he usually loses interest when it is time to manage a business. In the training I have had in entrepreneurism, I have learned that an entrepreneur loves the … [Read more...]

Leveraging your online popularity

leverage-tn

I’ve been writing lately about turning your online earning from a hobby to a business.  Part of the key here is changing the way you think.  But, there are other things that you need to do as well, if you want to establish a serious online business. One of your first steps is going to be to develop a following online.  Whether you have a website, a blog, an e-commerce store or a combination of all of these, you won’t really achieve huge success until, or unless you develop a crowd of people who follow you online.  Even if you manage to become very popular online, you still need to turn that level of online success into … [Read more...]

Nice Visit

Mabel Sunga Acosta

We had a nice afternoon yesterday.  It all started when I got an e-mail through Facebook from one of my Facebook friends.  It was a Facebook friend, but somebody whom I had not met in person.  It was from Davao City Councilor, Mabel Sunga Acosta.  Mabel is the President Pro Tempore of the Davao City Council. Mabel e-mailed me asking if it would be OK to stop by for Coffee at my house in the afternoon.  I had a long standing invitation to Mabel to come by for some coffee and conversation, but we had not yet had a chance to do it.  Mabel said, though, in her message that she was going to be having some time for coffee with her friend, … [Read more...]

Bob’s plan to tackle unemployment

Back to work again, it feels great!

A couple of years ago, when the economic crisis was just hitting the fan, I offered an idea which I called Bob's Bailout Plan.  The big politicians in Washington went with their own bailout plan instead, but so far it does not appear that the bailout really did much good.  The nation's economy is still massively screwed up.  I believe that my solution would have been a better idea for the nation, but what can I do? So, in the spirit of helping move things forward, today I am ready to announce "Bob's plan to tackle unemployment." The unemployment that resulted from the financial crisis that reared it's head in 2008 is still with … [Read more...]
