Hi Tagabukid - Thanks for the encouragement. Actually, since writing this article, I have already graduated from my Bisaya class. It took me 4 years to complete the course, but I consider myself quite fluent in the language, and I always speak Bisaya when I go out around town. It's a lot of fun for me, and you are right that I see great appreciation from the Filipinos that I come in contact with. Thanks again!

I was in in SM Cagayan de Oro last December and was waiting in line at the cashier with several foreigners. I was pleasantly surprised when one of them responded to a security guard's joke in Bisaya (they're regulars in the store it seems). His vocabulary and grammar were perfect, though his pronunciation still needs a bit of work, heh. The vowels were a bit on the "soft" side, but nothing major given that he had already mastered the most difficult part - understanding the mind-boggling amount of affixes we use on our words and the sometimes nonsensical grammar.

Anyway, good luck with learning Bisaya! :) I don't exactly know why, but it always lifts my spirits when I see someone taking the time to learn our language instead of just expecting us to understand theirs. And you'll find that it's the same reaction in other filipinos as well. As soon as they hear you talking in Bisaya, you'll see smiles and people get far more friendlier.

Hello jeremy - You ask an interesting question, and not a simple one.

Basically, an ATM card and a Debit card are two different things. However, and ATM card can be a Debit Card, and a Debit Card can be an ATM card. Or, they can be two complete different things.
