Today we got a comment and question from David McCray.
Here is what David McCray had to say:
I am an American born, single, and want to retire in the Philippnes. What should I do in terms of visa in my desire to stay there. I was in Manila for 2 weeks in 2006 and that was all.
And here is Bob’s response to David :
Hi David – Since you are not married to a Filipina, then there are two types of Visas that you qualify for – a tourist visa or an SRRV. A tourist visa will allow you to stay here for up to 16 months, with renewals every 2 months. An SRRV (Special Retiree’s Resident Visa) will allow you to stay for as long as you like, but you will need to put up a deposit with the Philippine Government. The amount depends on your age, which you did not give. If you are over 50, the amount is $20,000 (unless you can show an annuity payment of at least $800 per month, in which case the deposit is only $10,000). If you are under 50 the amount is larger, depending on your age.
Thank you for visiting, David, and good luck on retiring here in the Philippines.
