Today we got a comment and question from Crystal.
Here is what Crystal had to say:
Hi. I am 17 and was born in the Philippines. In 2007, I immigrated to the US and about 2 years later I became a US citizen through derivative citizenship(both my parents were already US citizens). I just applied for a passport and became a US citizen. My question is, did I lose my Philippine nationality? Is it possible for me to acquire dual citizenship even if I’m a minor? I’d like to have a dual citizenship because I’m planning on studying in the Philippines.
I went to the Philippines this June but I was a balikbayan (I was only allowed to stay fora year). Can I apply for a dual citizenship alone without having my parents apple so just I can study in the Philippines without the hassles of a student visa? Or can I apply when I am 18?
And here is Bob’s response to Crystal:
Hi Crystal – If you were given only a balikbayan visa, you must have used your US passport when you entered the Philippines. If you use your Philippine passport you may stay in the country for as long as you wish.
Thank you for visiting, Crystal.
