Liesl wrote in today with a question.
Here is Liesl’s question:
I have found very important information on your website. I want to thank you for taking the time to ansnwer each question. Maybe you can help me out with mine. I moved to the philippines since July 9th, 2009. I’m currently working legally. I have my working permit and will be renewing it soon. My company is taking care of this. My boyfriend is a Filipino born in the Philippines. We are planning to get married here in the Philippines. One of my interest is to apply for a dual citizenship for the benefits but without loosing the rights as a Nicaraguan. What would be the best options for me? I don’t want to hold a working permit anymore, since this is very complicated. Hope you can give me a hand on this. Thank you
And, here is our response to Liesl’s inquiry:
Hi Liesl – Under Philippine law, the only way you can become a citizen is to first renounce your Nicaraguan Citizenship. Dual Citizenship only applies for Philippine Citizens, not for foreigners like you and me.
Thank you for visiting, Liesl, and I am sorry to bring you bad news!
