Today, I got a note from Jorge with a question regarding his friend.
Here is Jorge’s e-mail:
sir i have a friend who acquired her japanese citizenship by marrying a japanese and now she wants her child to study in the phil. will she be able to process her sons dual citizenship without the consent of his husband since she wanted to get a divorce. btw her child was born here in the phil. thanks and more power to your site. hope you can help us
Thank you for writing.
If your friend is a Japanese citizen, and no longer a Philippine Citizen, then she should simply apply for Philippine Dual Citizenship. When she applies, her son can be included in her application.
If your friend is already a Dual Citizen, then her son is already a dual citizen, all she needs to do is file a report of birth abroad with the Philippine consulate or embassy in Japan.
In either case, no involvement from the Japanese husband is necessary.
